Devices and apps that work with Pulse Link

Check Apple Watch and AirPods requirements, tested training apps, and Bluetooth equipment support before buying Pulse Link.

Pulse Link 2.0 · Updated

You need an iPhone for every Pulse Link workout. It receives heart rate from your Apple Watch or supported AirPods and sends the readings to your equipment over Bluetooth.

Apple Watch and AirPods requirements

Choose a source for your workout
DeviceWhat you need
Apple WatchSeries 4 or later, SE, or Ultra with watchOS 10.6 or later. Pair it with an iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later. Set up Apple Watch.
AirPods Pro 3Heart rate sensing turned on and an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Set up AirPods.
Other AirPodsCheck that your model has a heart rate sensor. Models without one cannot supply heart rate. You can use Apple Watch instead.

These are the app’s minimum requirements. Newer Apple Watch models may need newer iPhone software. Check the App Store listing and Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 heart rate guide for details.

You do not need an Apple Watch for workouts using supported AirPods. If you have one, you can view the workout on the Watch and switch to its sensors.

Tested equipment and training apps

These tests used Apple Watch for heart rate. The results do not cover AirPods setups or every device and software version.

Connect to Zwift, MyWhoosh, Rouvy or JetBlack Victory.

Check other equipment and training apps

Your equipment or app must accept Bluetooth heart rate monitors. Its manual may call this the Bluetooth Heart Rate Service. Bluetooth support for music or headphones alone is not enough.

What to check before connecting
Your setupRequirements and limits
Bike, treadmill, rower or cycling computerCheck for a sensor menu that accepts Bluetooth heart rate monitors. Support depends on the model.
Training app on another deviceBoth the app and the device running it must accept Bluetooth heart rate data. Check their connection limits.
ANT+-only equipmentPulse Link sends data over Bluetooth, not ANT+. Equipment must have Bluetooth heart rate support.
Training app on the same iPhoneFor direct Bluetooth pairing, use a separate device to receive heart rate from the iPhone running Pulse Link.

Can I use Pulse Link with Zwift?

Yes. We have tested Pulse Link with Zwift using Apple Watch and iPhone. Select Pulse Link in Zwift’s heart rate sensor screen on a separate device. You can also connect through a supported trainer, such as JetBlack Victory. Follow the training app setup guide.

Connection limits and useful details

  • Up to three devices can receive heart rate from Pulse Link at once.
  • Your equipment normally finds the name Pulse Link. You can change it in Pulse Link Settings.
  • Broadcast Warmup lets your equipment connect before the workout starts. If you turn it on yourself, it stays on until you stop it.
  • Heart rate sharing can continue when the iPhone is locked. Keep all your devices nearby.
  • The live connection works without internet access. Downloading the app and some Apple services need a connection.
  • If heart rate is unavailable, Pulse Link pauses updates. It resumes when new readings arrive.
